Did you know Women invented beer? It’s true — if you don’t believe us, we’ll give you a moment to Google it yourself (or read this for a quick overview).
In celebration of women being the brains behind not only just beer, but a bunch of other awesome stuff, we have dedicated our Craft Beer series so you can find the best brew in your area to give cheers to our anc-sisters!
1. Yellowhead Brewing Company
The “pioneers of prairie beer,” Yellowhead Brewing Company tops the list for their thirst-quenching, crisp traditional lager and must-try malty Pale Ale (for those who like more of a hop). Not only is their beer good, but their Tasting Room is an experience in and of itself.
Where to find it: You will come across Yellowhead on tap around Edmonton, but for those wanting to experience it in the most authentic way possible — check out their 105 Street location (Bonus: It’s just a short walk away from Rogers Place for those catching a PLAYOFF game). Did we mention it’s only $4 for a golden pint of it here?!
Nothing says summer in Edmonton like a chilled glass of AlleyKat’s Aprikat. Just thinking of this heavenly wheat ale has my mouth watering. Luckily this is a regular brew, but AlleyKat also offers limited runs for you to test out their latest and greatest.
Where to find it: Thanks to their website’s handy dandy Beer Finder, you can find your nearest bar/restaurant or liquor store that carries it (Alberta-wide!). Or, take it one step further and venture on a Brewery Tour.
3. Situation Brewing Co.
This brew pub offers a unique space that combines your traditional pub with a microbrewery. Since it’s a microbrewery, keep your eyes peeled to the chalkboard to find out what’s being offered! Some notable favourites: Easy Does It Cream Ale and the Page Turner IPA.
Where to find it: You gotta be here to try it! Visit them at 10308 – 81 Ave (just off Gateway).
